Adobe Strobe

adobe_logo1Today, at the beginning of the National Association of Broadcasters Convention (NAB) in Las Vegas, Nevada, Adobe unveiled their latest lab work.  Called "Strobe", the new software is a framework for media players that will help to integrate all kinds of Adobe interactive possibilities, including Flash.

“With Strobe, we’re delivering an open framework that enables media companies to focus on their core competency, creating great content that people want to see, instead of developing their own video players from  scratch,” said Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of Dynamic Media at Adobe. “Adobe is committed

to driving Web innovation and now with Strobe, we are helping to create a open framework for media players,  enabling developers and media companies to focus on developing, delivering, and monetizing content so they can  extend their online media efforts”.

Opening the SDK to Flash developers will allow the media player to take advantage of advertising, social networking, and other integration to a broader market, including desktop, television and mobile devices.

I'm interested to see what the Flash developers will start to do with this new player.  Because Strobe is currently slated to be available as a FREE application, I'm sure that there will be many developers eager to capitalize on the player's arrival by creating templates for professional broadcasters of all levels.

I will be checking back to Adobe Labs to be sure to catch it as soon as it arrives later this year.  In the meantime, you may want to familiarize yourself with the Flash dev tools that are currently available on the Adobe site.
