This article is not seeing the whole picture. Most people do not buy Letus or any other high cost adapter. Anything over $300 is robbery. Many have successfully made a very high quality 35mm adapter in a DIY manner, getting pro quality results, which is really dependent upon lighting and other factors anyway. DOF is nothing more than a minor improvement and can easily be pulled off in post.

So, maybe in your world, spending a "measly" $5000 is a consumer level purchase. But in reality it is not. Most people build things and modify cheap consumer level products. This is how it should be because it brings back the old school way of working hard for a single result. Alot goes in, and even more comes out. Once you hit a certain $$ level in the filmmaking world, you hit "industry" and "business" and get trapped into worrying more about money than the love of the sport.

DOF adapters are hardly dead and will be around for awhile.

No question that 35mm DOF adapter sales have gone down. Clearly Canon, Panasonic, et al, will be introducing proper large sensor video cameras soon--at which point the multitude of deficiencies found in video DSLR cameras won't have to be put up with, unless low cost is the remaining driver.
