December 24, 2008 by Dave (Who am I?) · 2 Comments

premui1It’s been amazing to me seeing folks on various social networks like Twitter and Facebook pondering the negatives of Adobe’s new upgrade to its CS video production pipeline. As an “avid” user of the new CS4 products and a beta tester of Premiere Pro, I am here to say “What are you guys thinking?” I for one love, yes love, the workflow of Premiere Pro CS4. This is editing program is ready for the big leagues and will rival Final Cut with its amazing workflow.

FMC Review - Cram Makes Compression Easy and Fast

December 9, 2008 by Dave (Who am I?) · Leave a Comment

Nothing excites me more than saving my precious time. Whenever I am told about a new application that will do so I engulf myself into its full potential. When a friend told me about “Cram” (love the name!), a pack over 330 presets that work in Compressor 3, I was all over it.

FMC Review: Tweak Software RV Next Generation Image and Sequence Viewer

December 8, 2008 by Dave (Who am I?) · Leave a Comment

By Michael Auerswald

Introduction

When you think of “sexy” software you think of feature rich applications that make polygons dance or things explode. Image viewing or video playback software usually does not rank high on the list of most people. But like with many applications that offer “basic” functionality, you only ever notice how much they are an essential part of your pipeline when you find yourself stuck on a system with only its default viewers.

FMC Review: EditGroove’s UserMatic

One thing I hate is the dreaded beach balls in Final Cut Pro. Just when I get a good rhythm going that darned beach ball pops up and causes me to trash my preferences. It’s my biggest pet peeve about using Final Cut Pro.

FMC Review - Adobe Lightroom 2 – Make your ordinary photos extraordinary with a few clicks

October 6, 2008 by Dave (Who am I?) · Leave a Comment

For $300 dollars I can take my wife to a nice show in Vegas, pay half my car payment, or make my photos look like a professional took them. Ever since the birth of my son I have a renewed sense of photography. Yes I took classes in college but that way ages ago and we use something called film in those days.

FMC Book Review – The Art and Science of Digital Compositing

September 19, 2008 by Dave (Who am I?) · 1 Comment

At first glance Ron Brinkmann’s book The Art and Science of Digital Compositing might resemble a bible. Its sheer size is a bit daunting. However, just as the Bible was written to inspire and produce a solid foundation for followers of the faith, this book does the same for those interested in the world of compositing.

In all I have ever been involved in, be it football or filmmaking, without a solid foundation under my belt I would have never have been remotely successful. As I ventured into learning more about compositing for my own films I really wanted to create that foundation.

FMC Review: Noise Industries FX Factory Pro 2.0

As many of you know, 2007 marked the first year I have ever used a Mac. “PC forever” was my motto before. What was I thinking? Since picking up a new MacPro in June I have never looked back. When I decided to start using Final Cut Pro and Motion 3 something was missing for me. Gone were all the awesome plug ins I had on my Adobe and Avid products.

FMC Review - Hollywood Camera Work DVD

August 27, 2008 by Dave (Who am I?) · Leave a Comment

“Forget Film School! Go buy a camera, write your script and watch Hollywood Camera Work! Then go make your film! “

by Dave Basulto

The Master Course in High End Blocking and Staging

Let see where do I start…I will be honest when I first saw Hollywood Cameraworks ad I thought “great another fly by night, get richHollywood Camera Work scheme aimed at poor filmmakers”. Much to my very happy surprise their DVD series “The Master Course In High-End Blocking And Staging”, created by director Per Holmes, was extremely informative and I believe well worth the money! There are seminars/classes that try to teach you the art of directing, most are a big let down and waste of money. This series will teach you a lot. As most of you know I have been in the industry for quite a few years and I am pleased to say I LEARNED some great stuff from this series!

The DVD series, which is done with 3D models, starts off really explaining the basics of shots. For those of you who are just starting out you will learn a lot from this. From there we go into blocking, camera movement, and then staging high end scenes. As I prepare for my next film, this series really gave me some great ideas and insight for my shotlist.

So lets see..how much is it to go to film school? Why not pick up The Master Course In High-End Blocking And Staging and put the rest of the money into your film?
