PluralEyes makes multicam editing as easy as 1, 2, 3!
Posted by: | Comments
The process of post-production can be hard and time consuming, especially when you have multiple cameras from the same shoot. In order to edited between the different angles you must sync their audio files together and set them up into a multi-cam editing sequence. Many people don’t even attempt to use the feature, and they end up using an even more complicated process to get the job done.
Even if you know how to use the multi-cam Final Cut Pro feature, it can still be difficult to set up right. On top of that, the productions value depends on it to be done right. However, once you get a hang of it, its very simple editing that can cut your post-production time in half. The tricky thing about multi-cam editing is mainly syncing the clips, all sorts of unforeseen problems can arise to make this process difficult; the camera’s could have started recording at drastically different times, loss of audio, gaps and problems from the tapes magnetic strip, the list could go on and these problems can make your post-production extend for hours on end.
Enter Pluraleyes
I personally use Final Cut Pro’s multi-cam editing sequences to complete productions for my clients. The post-production workflow is not efficient as it is wasted time when you are syncing clips, and watching over the footage to see if its synced. That’s where Singular Software’s Pluraleyes provides its assistance. The program itself is a blessing for editors. It is simple to use, advanced in analyzing audio & footage, increases production value while cutting post time in half, even the few issues of the software are no problem, it’s a beneficial product. The Foundry Does It Again! (Part One)

Last month, I was introduced to the superb Keylight plug-in for Final Cut Pro (see And, The Academy Award® Goes To… An Instruction Manual!?! and Enter The Foundry: Visual Effects Software That Is Unbeatable!). After completing my examination of that excellent add-on, I began to study FurnaceCore, which is another superb plug-in for Final Cut Pro that was created by the Academy Award®-winning software-developer, The Foundry.* This plug-in provides tools for image restoration, correction, and stylization, all of which vastly improve picture-quality and reduce production-time. My platform is a 2005 Dual 2.7 GHz Macintosh PowerPC G5, with 8 GB of DDR SDRAM, controlled by OS X 10.4.11.

My 3 favorite aspects of Keylight: The instruction-manual is perfect! • The plug-in is extremely forgiving; cinema-industry-grade RGB values for rear-illuminated blue/green screens or cinema-industry-grade CMYK values for painted/curtained blue/green backdrops are not required in order to extract cinema-industry-grade mattes. • Once the plug-in is applied from the FCP “Effects” folder to the “Filters” tab of a video-clip, then all of the image-manipulation necessities are at hand; there is no need to search through the many other QuickTime folders or FCP folders in order to locate similar functions that do not work as well.

FMC Review – Nveil for Final Cut Pro
Posted by: | CommentsAfter hearing some great things about the creativeness of the Nveil plug in for Final Cut Pro I had to test drive it. Inside the plug in are 60 "veils" that you can use to make some really cool, hip effects on the fly with your footage. The Nveil folks are also doing a special introductory price of just $99. They will be offering more "veils" free each month and an After Effects version and a stand alone version are in the works. Definitely give them a try! Cheers!

NAB 09: Trapcode Particular V2 with Peder Norrby
Posted by: | CommentsI was lucky to catch Peder for a quick demo of a few features in the new Particular V2 plugin. I've known Peder for several years - - so it's just a really quick, informal demo. Just something to grab a quick video of him at NAB... most of the time there were tons of animators with full court press on the booth (see pix on ninjacrayon)

NAB 09: particleIllusion coming to After Effects
Posted by: | CommentsAlan has been working on this port from particleIllusion to After Effects plugin for a long time. It's taken some time for Adobe to come up with API to keep up with all of the animatable parameters that particle Illusion has already.

NAB 09 Jerzy Drozda, Jr (maltaannon) 3D Serpentine
Posted by: | CommentsMaltaannon is known by most for his participation in the After Effects forums and newsthreads, so it's no surprise to see him showing off Zaxwerks 3D Serpentine - - sweep geometry in After Effects:
I just got an update from Zax - - more good stuff going into the plugin for when it releases! I hope to have him to our DMALA meeting to show it off too. Still in beta - it's due to release sometime soon.
