Looking forward to your comments...MOTO Development Group Creates Simple DIY Performance Analysis Test for Touchscreen Consumer Electronics
LAS VEGAS --(Business Wire)-- Jan 09, 2010 MOTO Development Group today unveiled a video and photographs of a touchscreen performance test between the Google Nexus One, the Apple iPhone, the Motorola Droid, and the HTC Verizon Droid Eris.
The video and photos of MOTO’s “DIY Smartphone Touchscreen Analysis” experience is available here: http://labs.moto.com/diy-touchscreen-analysis
DIY with One Finger and a Drawing Program
MOTO Development Group created the simple technique so that anyone can evaluate the resolution and accuracy of touchscreen devices before they buy. To conduct the test, consumers open a basic drawing program and draw a few diagonal lines drawn across the screen.
Draw Slowly. On a quality touchscreen, people can draw clean straight lines, even while going very slowly. The image that appears on screen accurately represents the slowly drawn lines. However, on inferior touchscreens, it’s basically impossible to draw straight lines. Instead, the lines look jagged, stair-stepped or zig-zag, no matter how slowly you go. The inferior image results from the sensor size is too big, the touch-sampling rate is too low, and/or the algorithms that convert gestures into images are too non-linear to faithfully represent user inputs. Please let me know what you thought of this post... I'm dying to find out...Color Correction Tutorials
Posted by: | CommentsI scoured the web and found some great video tutorials for you on color correcting. As I said in my previous post, this is a very important part of the process of filmmaking. Distributors want your movie to have a "filmic" look. This is achievable using great products such as those from the Magic Bullet family. Apple's Color is a tremendous tool but has a huge learning curve. Most NLE's also contain color correcting tools.

What are your thoughts on the subject?NAB 09 : NVIDIA GPU monster for the Mac
Posted by: | CommentsNVIDIA Muscle
Mac Adobe Users can flex their video power.

NVIDIA QUADRO 4800 for Mac
At this year's NAB, there were many new announcements from both software and hardware companies bringing new workflow and process capabilities to be broadcast professionals in attendance. Adobe offered a glimpse at some of the upcoming solutions that will be coming out for its users later this year. On the other hand, NVIDIA was there to show off products currently shipping, including their newest cards for GPU processing.
In Adobe's After Effects, many of the plug-ins and that broadcast designers have come to rely on, and many of the new processes found in CS4 rely on GPU accelerated video processing. This is where the QuadroFX 4800 series truly shines. Not only in the Mac hardware, but in the PC hardware as well.
It's been four years since I first met Jeff Brown, and he told me about the potential of the GPU. There have been many major advances in the technology since Nforce 4's SLI. The Quadro Plex monsters notwithstanding, this is one of the most exciting desktop GPU computing announcements for Mac users.
Other key features in the Quadro FX 4800 GPU for Mac include:
- Interactive Visualization of Large Models - Offers a massive 1.5GB frame buffer and memory bandwidth up to 76.8 GB/sec. to deliver high throughput for interactive visualization of large models; high-performance for real time processing of large textures and frames; and the highest quality and resolution with full-scene antialiasing (FSAA)
- High-performance Visualization - NVIDIA's CUDA parallel computing architecture for NVIDIA Quadro GPUs enables breakthrough application performance to enhance creative expression in areas such as video, animation, photography and production
- Dual Dual Link DVI and Stereo Connectors - Outfitted with a dedicated 3 pin min-din connector for stereo glasses support and up to two dual-link DVI digital connectors to drive the highest resolution digital displays available on the market.

Dual DVI allows for true stereo work without compromise
- Boot Camp Support - Access to native Quadro GPU accelerated professional Windows 3D graphics performance and features when using Apple Boot Camp.
The NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 GPU for the Mac will be available starting in May of this year through Apple resellers, including apple.com. You'll find it listing at about $1799. It may seem steep at first, until you realize the amount of time that you will be saving when rendering all of those GPU enhanced projects. I would love to see the new Mac offered with an option to upgrade from the current NVIDIA card to the 4800, which might bring a savings of $150.

Video Editing Software
Posted by: | CommentsI get asked "Dave, what software do you like for editing?" My toolbox is filled with Apple Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and Sony Vegas. They all have their own advantages and disadvantages. My suggestion is to try their demos if they have them and learn one.
Most of the companies allow owners to transfer their licenses. This allows you to search places like Ebay below for good deals. Make sure the software is upgradeable.

FMC Review – Cram Makes Compression Easy and Fast
Posted by: | CommentsNothing excites me more than saving my precious time. Whenever I am told about a new application that will do so I engulf myself into its full potential. When a friend told me about "Cram" (love the name!), a pack over 330 presets that work in Compressor 3, I was all over it.

Greetings, today I have the pleasure of speaking to filmmaking and graphic design guru Kenn Bell. Kenn's a guy who is really embracing the digital age of filmmaking. Among other projects, his webisodes of The Dog Files are extremely entertaining and well produced. Kenn produces, directs and edits the show who's tagline is "Everything you ever wanted to know about dogs and the people that love them". This is one great interview. Enjoy.
